September 20, 2024Do This One (Very) Important Thing Before Painting Your Brick House In The Dallas Metroplex
Have you given any thought to painting your brick home’s exterior?
Perhaps you never really liked the color of your brick, and you want to get it painted?
If you answered yes, then great. You’ve come to the right place. (And yes, you can paint a brick house.)
Do you live in a neighborhood that has a Homeowners Association (HOA)?
If you don’t have an HOA, you should be fine to move forward.Â
If you live in a subdivision or neighborhood that has an HOA, you’ll want to check with them first to see if this is something that is allowed. Â
A good idea is to drive around your neighborhood to see if there are other homes that have painted brick. Either way, at some point you’ll need their approval.
We paint brick often and a lot of HOA’s allow it.
However, we’ve heard a story from a competitor that a homeowner wanted their brick painted and assumed it was ok to get it done and they hired a painter to do the work. The company they hired also assumed it was ok since the homeowner hired them. Â
After the work was done and the contractor was paid, the homeowner received a letter from the HOA telling them that the paint had to be removed from their house because it was not approved.
This was a very costly mistake for the homeowner; not only did they have to pay the painting company to paint their home, but they also had to hire a company to sandblast the paint and primer off their brick. I would imagine that this was a very time-consuming process which equals high costs.
We at Texas Painting And Gutters always want to earn your business, that’s why owner Jeff  educates our customers on the proper steps to take when it comes to painting brick.
Painting brick is not as easy as it seems; there is a process and it would need to be primed first, then painted. With that being said, you definitely want to hire a professional like Texas Painting And Gutters, who have completed more than 2000 projects locally.
Either you ask your HOA first if it’s allowed or have us come out and give you an estimate, then submit it to your HOA for approval. Asking the HOA for approval is up to the homeowner, not the contractor.
This may take several weeks or longer for an approval or denial, but in the end, it will be worth the wait. Â
