Moving Into A New Home This Summer? Here’s What To Do If Don’t Like The Interior Paint Color
May 15, 2025Selling Your Home This Summer? Here’s What To Do To Prep Your Home’s Interior Paint Ahead Of The Sale

School is officially out for the summer, which means there will be a lot of people buying and selling homes.
Today’s blog will focus on prepping your home’s interior paint before selling your home. (If you’re moving into a new home, check out our last post here)
We’ll mention this again below, but if you’re ready to move forward with a new paint project ahead of selling, a great time to call a contractor for an estimate is once you’ve decided to sell your home.
Ideally, about 6-8 weeks before putting it on the market. This will allow you time to get estimates, decide, and have work completed.
A reputable painting company during this time of year will be booked out for several weeks.
If you follow this timeline, it’ll help you feel less stressed.
Less Is More
Have you heard the saying, “less is more”?
This applies to painting, especially when you’re planning to sell your home.
When choosing colors, keep this in mind: you should not be choosing colors that are to your taste.
You may love a purple kitchen, but that may not appeal to most home buyers.
We recommend going with a more neutral palette to appeal to more people. If they choose to repaint after closing, then they can pick the color(s) to their taste.
If you’re on a budget, painting the walls will make the biggest impact. This is not the time to go with your cousin’s friend’s brother who did painting on the side while going to college.
You want straight lines and a nicely finished painted room. If a potential homeowner sees a thrown-together paint job, they may start wondering what else in the home is not taken care of.
Planning Your Pre-Sale House Painting
This may sound like a broken record, but the best time to call a contractor for an estimate is once you’ve decided to sell your home. Ideally, 6-8 weeks before putting it on the market.
Not only will it take some stress off you to get the process started, but it might also motivate you to start to organize & declutter and give you time to plan your next move.
Texas Painting and Gutters would love to provide a free estimate and help you get started.
